Onthatile Dlamini (02) summary
Current approaches to environmentalism do not work because most people do not think of it as their role. When it comes to global warming, environmentalism flunked. Despite years of warnings, countries fail to meet the reduction targets or even engage in the Kyoto Protocol. Methods of handling global warming are inconsistent. People will do anything to boast the economy even if it harms the environment. Economic growth is built on the use of cheap fossil fuels. The cheapest way to spur economic growth is by burning more fossil fuel. People believe that the more money you have, you can use the money buy products that can clean the environment. To improve we need to change types of light bulbs we use. Consider smaller homes, closer to the centre of town, where we could use the bus, or a bike for transportation. An association that takes people’s aspirations for good and secure lives seriously would be needed.

write about a time some failed to live up to her or his reputation
I felt my knees wobble as my hands began to tremble in fear. My eyes slowly began to widen. My head began to move from left to right as it slowly began to gain momentum. My legs could not hold my body weight any longer and they began to give way. I knelt down to my sisters legs. Buckets of tears filled my eyes as I looked up to my sister and said, “Lisa, you have let me down.”
I liked Lisa from the very moment I knew her. Not only was she my sister, she was such an inspiration to many. She would volunteer at orphanages and hospital. She would lend a helping hand whenever needed. She never failed to smile no matter what situation she was presented with or how bad her day was going. She was my hero; my idol. In school, a lot of kids envied me for having such a wonderful sister. During recess, a few students would surround me and listen as I boasted about my sister’s achievements and the number of things she has done for me.
I never thought in a million years that my sister would do anything wrong. I thought of her as the perfect human being. Little did I realize that that I was in for a big surprise. One day, as I was walking home I heard a strange noise coming from a hidden corner. I headed in the direction of the noise to find out was going on. As I got closer, I heard sounds of laughter and chatters. I saw a couple of teenaged looking students smoking what looked like drugs. I took a step forward to try to identify the students’ faces to see if there was anyone I knew. My eyes widened and my jaw dropped. To my utter dismay, I saw Lisa, my elder sister.
“Lisa!! I don’t understand; how could you be doing something like that?” I said agitatedly as I threw my hands in the air.
Lisa responded calmly, trying to get me to cool down, “it’s not the way it looks, anyway you won’t understand.”
“Then explain,” I cried out, pacing up and down, “I want to know exactly what is going on!”
Never in a million years would I have expected her to do something like that. She was my role model and hero but all that just changed in one day. From that day I learned that a reputation that has been built over so many months or years can be crushed within a few minutes.

narrative on advertisment
Parents often teach their children, from a young age, that they should not bite the hand that feeds them, not realising that they themselves, do not practice what they preach.
Abdulla was born in 1935. He came from a poor family of eight. Being the oldest, he grew up helping his father in the farm. At the age of 27, he met a beautiful young lady by the name of Rasheeda. Within a few months the couple wedded and soon had a beautiful little girl by the name of Shahida. Every morning, Abdulla woke up at 6a.m and began his one hour journey to the farm that he had inherited from his dad. He would return home at 5p.m. exhausted and worn out only to cook dinner for his family. He loved his family so dear; he made a vow to himself that he would work hard to give his family the life he grew up not having. Shahida’s mom passed away when she was only eight years of age, due to a rare skin disease. This crushed Abdulla. He felt as if it was his fault. If only he had made enough money to pay for all those expensive surgeries, then maybe Rasheeda would have survived.
After a few months of turmoil, he decided that since Shahida was all he had, he would work twice as hard for her. He decided to sell his farm and open a food stall. He worked as a post man in the morning, and in the afternoon he attended to his shop. Soon, the shop was generating enough income so he sent Shahida to one of the most prestigious schools and he gave her everything she wanted and needed. Shahida progressed in school and moved on to obtain her degree in law. She graduated the top of her class. Her father was so proud of her, that he used his savings to buy her a car. Later on, she met the love of her life, Rafie, and began her own family. She later on had two beautiful children by the name of Zu l and Nurul. Abdulla’s health was slowly deteriorating. He eventually had to sell his shop as he was to unwell to tend to it.
He was in and out of hospital, and soon was told that he had parkinson’s disease. He was too weak to take care of himself though he insisted. His daughter was called and asked to take her dad home with her and to take care of him. Her husband had a strong objection. He did not want to take the responsibility of looking after an old man who was dying. He suggested to Shahida that he be left in hospital until the festive were over but unfortunately the hospital did not have enough beds so it was impossible.
At home things were much worse, due to his Parkinson’s disease, he could not grip everything. He would often drop things he held. This was especially a problem during meal times. As he reached out to help himself with the food, his hands gave way and he would find himself dropping the spoon or the bowl of food. His trembling hands made it hard for him to lift a spoon full of food to his mouth. Every time he dropped a spoon or a plate of food he would get stares from his son in law and unwanted gestures. This took the turn for worst when he began losing control of his body. He would unintentionally let out motion. Rafie would stand up and leave the table or mock Abdulla in front of his own grand children. Rafie decided he had had enough and he moved Abdulla to a separate table outside with unbreakable utensils. That way he didn’t disturb the family. Abdulla felt crushed. He turned to his daughter for help support only to be turned down. One afternoon Rafie heard his kids playing and laughing, as he approached them to find out what they were playing, he was shocked at what he saw.
The startled Rafie asked his kids, “What game are you playing?”
“We playing happy family,” replied Zul with a smile on his face, “When we grow up, me and my Nurul will eat in the house, while you and mum will eat outside.”
“Don’t forget to wear your diapers dad!” happily exclaimed Zul.
Culpable and shameful, Shahida dashed to the house to look for her dad. Her knees gave way as she fell to her dad’s side. Tears began rapidly falling down like bullets hitting her collar. She looked up to her dad. Chocking, she wept uncontrollably as she mouth out the words,
“Dad, I’m sorry.”

Dear Mrs Menon
Facilities For The New Building
My Name is Onthatile Dlamini and I am a senior student from 4E3. Firstly, I would like to thank you for giving us, the senior students of chong boon, the opportunity to have a role in deciding which of the community. Given the purpose of the building, which is to provide facilities for all students, I suggest that a multi-media resource centre will be a better choice.
I suggest the multi-media resource centre because it achieves the aims of the new building. It offers IT training for young and old. This means that anyone, despite their age, can enjoy the wonders of IT. Due to the rise in technology, this can be of great benefit to students who do not have computers or internet at home and to the old who want to learn more about IT. It also offers a digital resource library and cyber café from which members of the community can utilize instead of travelling to the library. On top of that, Teachers and students can do their research in the library while gulping down food from the cyber café.
I have looked through the other two options of building a theatre and concert hall and a multi-purpose spots hall including an indoor swimming pool. These options are great ideas. Performances by the students can be held at the theatre which the community can come watch. The sports hall can be used by members of the community as well as the students which will save travelling time to the stadium. However, they are more beneficial to the students and they do not cater to the needs of everyone in the community such as the old.
The multi-media resource centre will encourage links between the school and the local community. Through interaction between the members of the community and the students, they will begin to share their skills and interests. The building will be equipped with state of the arts facilities. There will be computers on the first level, where the trainers will be able to conduct their trainings without disturbing the people in the library. The library and the café will be located on the second storey so that people can read while relaxing to warm cup of tea.
I would like to thank you once again for the great opportunity given. I will be looking forward to your response.
Yours sincerely
